The New Canaan Y Aquianas Synchronized Swimming club continued its strong 2015 season by taking home the winner's trophy in the Junior-Senior East Zone championships held in New Canaan Mar. 13-15. The winner's trophy is given to the club that amasses the most points across solo, duet, team and combo routines, as well as figures scores.

This was New Canaan's second major trophy win this year. The club also snagged the winning High Point Trophy at the East Zone 13-15 Age Group Championships held in Schenectady, NY In February, which brought together 17 East Coast clubs.

The March meet, attended by 15 clubs from up and down the East Coast, featured athletes aged from 13 to 19. The New Canaan Aquianas club fielded three teams in the team routine event. All three routines made it to finals, reaching first, fourth, and tenth place respectively.

The winning routine was swum by Alice Chidley, Renee Collett, Katherine Connolly, Katie Farrell, Camilla Kline, Isabella Montgomery, Alexandra Poteet, and Eliza Wetmore. The fourth-place routine was swum by Audrey Bourque, Hannah Chen, Lauren LaPorta, Audrey Millar, Rachel Panzano, Sophie Price, Katherine Reiter, and Emmanuella Tchakmakjian. The tenth-place routine was swum by Sarah Hoyt, Katie Lydon, Martina Radislovova, Eva Spangler, Maddie Sturcke, Nicole Vanderlee, and Victoria Walters.

New at synchro meets this year was the introduction of `combo' routines, which feature up to 10 girls. At the March meet, the New Canaan teams placed second, fourth and eleventh in a field of 18 combo routines.

For the combo, the teams' rosters expanded to include Hannah Chen, Lauren LaPorta, Alexandra Lin and Ophelie Tousignant in the top-scoring team, with Wetmore and Connolly swimming for the fourth-placed team along with Olivia Buckley and Katie Chidley. The youngest New Canaan combo team expanded to include Britney LaVecchia and Rory Washecka.

New Canaan swimmers Collett and Nyra Davis took first and second place respectively in the Senior Solo division, and Poteet took third place in the Junior Solo. Five duos from New Canaan placed in the finals (top 12); the duo of Katie Chidley and Connolly earned an honorary first place, Kline and Poteet followed in second place, and Alice Chidley and Farrell reached fifth. The duos of Lin/Tousignant and Bourque/Wetmore rounded out New Canaan's presence in the duet final.

The New Canaan swimmers had a particularly strong showing in the figures portion of the March meet, with Connolly, Tchakmakjian, Farrell, Collett, Montgomery, Davis, Wetmore, and Tousignant all making the All Star East Zone team after placing in the top 16 out of over 170 figures contestants.

Said coach Jen Muzyk, "To win 2 High Point trophies back to back puts us in great shape as we prepare for some of the toughest competition of the year at the prestigious US Nationals Meet in Moraga, CA in April."
