College Notes: Area athletes earn academic honors

Three area athletes have been named Capital One Academic All-American.
Corey Paulish (Ridgefield), a wrestler at Williams, was also named to the first team after he posted a 3.76 GPA in economics and psychology.
Katrina Nietsch (New Canaan), a lacrosse standout at Navy, was second team District II selection after she had a 3.41 majoring in quantitative economics.
Nietsch was also the recipient of the Cheryl Dolynick Award presented to the female Midshipman of the graduating class that excelled in athletics, leadership and academics during her four years at Navy.

Stuart Knechtel (New Canaan) of Gordon, an All-TCC defenseman, was named to the USILA Academic All-American team.
Bertony Jean-Louis (Brien McMahon) was the recipient of the Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete award in men's indoor track and field for the second straight year. An All-East selection in the 60 hurdles for Sacred Heart, Jean-Louis posted a 3.49 GPA with a major in business.
Dan Schreff (Greenwich), co-captain and starting libero with Harvard's volleyball team, was named to the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association All-Academic Team. He carries a 3.7 GPA and is a psychology and neurobiology concentrator.
Alaria Pizzo (Greenwich) was presented with the Cynthia Oyler `93 Award, presented to the senior William Smith student-athlete who plans to continue their education on the postgraduate level. She was also named to the Liberty League Women's Rowing All-Academic Team.
Despina Savvoulides (Norwalk), a member of the women's lacrosse team, was the recipient of the Wildcat Award at Wheelock, presented to the student-athlete who has made significant athletic contributions to a program and demonstrated leadership through his or her athletic prowess.
Samantha Schnoerr (Norwalk) of UMass was named Atlantic-10 Rowing Student Athlete of the Year.
Sean Bannon (Greenwich) of Fairfield was named a New England Lacrosse Association Division I Scholar Athlete.
Steven Vogl (Stamford/Rye Country Day) of Indiana was named to the Big Ten Tennis Academic Team.
Numerous area athletes were NESCAC Spring Sports All-Academic selections. They included:
Colby -- David Cramer (New Canaan).
Connecticut College -- Sara Krivoshik (Wilton).
Trinity -- T.J. Cholnoky (Greenwich/Hotchkiss).
Area athletes named to Liberty League All-Academic team were:
Hamilton -- James Grebey (Westhill), Meredith FitzPatrick (Greenwich Academy), Tory Grieves (New Canaan), Devon Lynch (New Canaan), David Goldstein (Greenwich), Caroline Morgan (Greenwich), Rachel Friedman (Fairfield Warde).
Union -- Jessica Singer (New Canaan).
