Neglected farm stand now a project for Southington students
SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (AP) — A long-neglected farm stand in Southington will soon see new life as a project for students at the local high school.
The farm stand was badly deteriorated when the town bought it two years ago.
The Record-Journal reports that students studying carpentry and other trades will rebuild the stand with donated materials.
Board of Education officials say the foundation for the stand has been poured by a local company. Lumber donated by a foundation has been provided to Southington High School and construction is set to begin this week.
Local growers will continue to use the farm stand to sell produce. The Farm Heritage Committee will oversee the farm stand's operation.
