York exhibiting 'Traces' in Southport
New Canaan artist Torrance York's series "Traces" is on exhibit at Southport Galleries through Dec. 24.
"Traces" is part of Southport Galleries' presentation of "Focus-Click-Now: New Masters of Photography."
"The childhood moments depicted in `Traces' focus on instances of exploration, growth or transition in everyday life, experiences distilled into single images that are uncovered through the viewer's frame of reference," York said in a release. "Observant of the innocence and wisdom of children, I endeavor to document their journeys, no matter how big or small."
York earned a Master of Fine Arts in photography from Rhode Island School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts from Yale. In 2010, York was awarded a Connecticut Artist Fellowship grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism. She has exhibited in solos shows at the Silvermine Art Center, New Canaan Library, ROOM in Greenwich and Thos. Moser in New York City. She was one of 12 artists included in the regional "Radius: Emerging Artists" 2007 exhibition co-organized by the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists. She has exhibited in additional group shows locally and nationally.
The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information, visit www.southportgalleries.com.
