YMCA's summer programs accepting registration
Registration for the New Canaan YMCA's summer non-camp program session begins on Monday, June 3, at 9 a.m.
The eight-week session begins on June 24 and runs through Aug. 16.
An array of instructional aquatics lessons will be available during the summer session for ages 6 months and older and for all experience levels. Understanding the importance of summer swim instruction and scheduling challenges that arise this time of year, the Y offers multiple session length options for swim lessons. Lessons are conducted in four-week sessions that meet once a week, in addition to one- and two-week sessions that each meet four times a week. Smaller class options are also available through Power Pack classes, which last for one week with four classes and a limit of three participants. Adult swim lessons and the pool-based Arthritis Exercise class will also be available this summer.
Additional youth offerings for the summer session include a variety of sports and wellness programs, including baseball, karate, tennis, golf, fencing, and a preschool sports class featuring soccer and T-ball. Youth wellness programs include Zumbatomic, Fun Fitness, Youth Strength Training, and FIT-traxx for Kids. These programs are in addition to family drop-in wellness programs, such as Family Spin and Family Pilates Fusion.
The YMCA School of Music will also continue lessons for kids and adults through the summer offering instruction in piano, strings, drums, guitar, and voice. Additionally, the child-guardian music class, More Than Just Music, will be offered children for ages 1 to 3.
The Y will be offering an extended open gym schedule for Bouncing Bears Monday through Saturday throughout the summer. Members may purchase a Bouncing Bears FunGym summer pass and enjoy unlimited open gym visits. A summer pass is valid June 24 to Aug. 16 and costs $200 for one child and $25 for each additional child.
The Summer Flips Recreational Gymnastics program will continue this year offering a structured yet fun recreational gymnastics class that provides kids with a great opportunity to enjoy gymnastics and feel challenged whether a beginner or experienced gymnast. Classes will be offered in one-week sessions, allowing participants to attend as many weeks as they like based on their summer schedule.
Adult wellness services include a range of group exercise classes, including Yoga, Group Power, Group Core, Spinning, Group Step, Pilates, Zumba, a variety of water exercise classes, and more. Summer sessions of small group training classes including Pilates Apparatus, TRX, and FIT-traxx will be offered in addition to personal and group training opportunities. Based on training used by Navy Seals, the TRX training system is a revolutionary method of leveraged body-weight exercise helping build power, strength, flexibility, balance, and mobility, all at an intensity you choose. FIT-traxx is the incredible small group training program that is scientifically designed to help people of all ages, shapes and sizes melt fat, increase energy, and build strength.
A Y-Ball Alumni Basketball League will be conducted this summer for ages 18 to 25. Games will begin in June and conclude in July. Teams will have a minimum of 10 regular season games and an end-of-season tournament.
Through the summer, the Y will also continue to provide programs that promote healthy lifestyles, including Healthy Balance, a nutrition and lifestyle change program; Live Well, a chronic disease self-management program; and a Cancer Wellness program, which is a personalized exercise program for those who are currently or recently have undergone cancer treatment.
