Wallet reported stolen at Dunkin' Donuts
A New Canaan resident's wallet was stolen at Dunkin' Donuts, 88 Elm St., July 15, according to police.
While making a purchase at the shop at 7:05 a.m., the 55-year-old victim put his wallet on the counter and then sat down briefly before leaving, police said. The man realized he didn't have his wallet when he returned home, according to the report. He went back to Dunkin' Donuts but the wallet was no longer there and no employees had seen it, police said.
After police viewed video surveillance from the shop, they saw a customer picking up the wallet and putting it in his pocket, according to the report. Police described the suspect as white or Hispanic, between 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, medium built, clean shaven and with short black hair.
The suspect paid for his purchase with his own credit card, which police said would help identify him.
The victim said he had about $80, debit cards, credit cards and his driver's license in the wallet.
