The subject of a traffic study as part of the Long Range Planning Committee's efforts was brought up at Wednesday's Town Council meeting. Christine Wagner, Chairman of the LRPC, asked First Selectman Jeb Walker to discuss the possibility of a private donor paying for the traffic count aspect proposed in Phase II of the master plan.
"I have made arrangements for a developer who is having to do an extensive traffic analysis, to do that for us for free," Walker said at the meeting.
When asked who the developer was and some more details on the matter, Walker did not elaborate, saying the private donor did not want to be revealed.

"It is a private enterprise and they intend to keep it that way," Walker told the Town Council. "This was done with me in confidence, but I assure you it is more than sufficient funding to pay for all the traffic analysis we might need, including counts."
Walker issued a statement clarifying his remarks from the Town Council meeting. In the statement he stressed, "Any private offer to fund a study is subject to the approval of the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance and Town Council."
Walker also reiterated "The offer to fund the traffic count study is still in the preliminary stages and will be presented to all the town boards if and when it is formalized."
