Volunteer Action Center awards top volunteers

The Voluntary Action Center of Mid-Fairfield, a program of the Human Services Council, will celebrate National Volunteer Week at its 18th Annual Volunteer Leadership Breakfast on Tuesday, April 20, at Dolce Norwalk Center, 8 to 9:30 a.m.
Stew Leonard's will receive the Corporate Leadership Award in recognition of their generous support and volunteer involvement over many years to our community.
Jill Leonard Tavello, executive vice president, will accept the award. Betsy Bain, a lifelong resident of Norwalk, will receive the distinguished service award for her volunteer service and leadership in both city government and education committees and organizations.
Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week has drawn the support and endorsement of all subsequent U.S. presidents, governors, mayors and other respected elected officials. National Volunteer Week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities.
The Volunteer Leadership Breakfast is VAC's annual fundraising and visibility event. Lead sponsorships are available for $5,000 and $2,500. Table Sponsorships for tables of 10 are $500, and VAC appreciates the early sponsorship support of Benefit Planning Services. Individual tickets are $60. The Voluntary Action Center of Mid-Fairfield is a source for volunteer recruitment, management, training and recognition and serves over 150 not-for-profit agencies throughout the region. VAC is a program of the Human Services Council -- a private, non-profit organization which was established in 1944 to develop programs to help meet the needs of families throughout the greater Norwalk community -- other programs of the Human Services Council include: Children's Connection, Community Prevention Task Force, the Dr. Robert E.
