The Philip Johnson Glass House announces the launch of its Online Design Store.
The Glass House Online Design Store offers an edited selection of products inspired by the Glass House site highlighting the latest in eco-friendly materials, production techniques, and design concepts from around the world. Gift ideas include:
The New Yorker Glass House Puzzle (500 piece, $25) -- a design store exclusive. "The Glass House," which appeared on the May 20, 1967, New Yorker cover, was among cartoonist Charles Saxon's legendary 92 covers and 725 drawings published over three decades. A resident of New Canaan, which had the greatest concentration of mid-century modern houses in the United States in the 1960's, Saxon knew many of these experimental modern home owners, as well as their architects.
Bauhaus Mobile ($80). Christian Flensted and his wife Grethe began making mobiles as decorations for the modern Danish home in 1954. Flensted mobiles are designed so the elements are in constant motion while the entire mobile maintains a harmonic balance.
