NEW CANAAN — Police arrested a man believed to be responsible for stealing $13,000 worth of jewelry from a New Canaan home in December 2014.

On Dec. 3, 2014, New Canaan police responded to a house on New Norwalk Road on reports of a burglary. The front door had been forced open and $13,000 worth of jewelry was taken.

Police obtained DNA evidence from the crime scene and submitted it to a state lab for processing. From this, they were able to identify Stephen Carroll of Scott Road in Prospect, Conn. as the suspect. Based on this and other evidence from the investigation, police obtained a warrant for Carroll, 44, and took him into custody on Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. at the Norwalk Superior Court where he was in custody on other charges.

Carroll was charged with burglary in the third degree and larceny in the second degree. He was held on a $40,000 bond and will appear in court on Nov. 22.
