Station Eats settles in along Atlantic Street in Stamford
2nd location opens in Stamford: Owners of organic restaurant plan to establish regional chain

The owners of a New Canaan restaurant have taken a step toward establishing a regional chain by opening a second restaurant at the Landmark Square complex in Stamford.
Located at the plaza level above Atlantic Street at 3 Landmark Square, Station Eats opened last week in 2,000 square feet after extensive renovations that converted the space from office use.
Nicholas Type, who co-owns the business with Seth Leifer, said he was attracted to the site by the outdoor plaza that will be furnished with picnic tables and umbrellas with outdoor seating for up to 60 patrons.
"It has such a nice, commanding view of Atlantic Street and the Palace Theatre," Type said. "There's a lot of competition here, but we never sit on our laurels."
The restaurant has become a popular stop in New Canaan for its made-to-order, organically raised beef and vegetable burgers and its nitrate/nitrite-free hotdogs, sloppy joes, salads, organic fries and antibiotic- and hormone-free milkshakes.
Station Eats, with its bright orange and blue colors, also is in the process of receiving its state liquor license, allowing it to sell beer, wine and "high-octane" shakes with bourbon, vodka and kahlua.
"We plan on rolling these across the region, across Connecticut and into New York," Type said. "We're planning to do franchising."
Introductory hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays, 12 to 7 p.m. The hours will be extended in the spring.
Type said he expects the restaurant to draw employees in the complex, shoppers from the Stamford Town Center mall and people from the neighborhood.
"On weekends, we'll see a lot of families, which is wonderful," he said.
The space with the plaza is ideally suited for a restaurant, said Larry Kwiat, senior vice president of S.L. Green Realty Corp., owner of the complex.
"There was an insurance agent there paying below-market rent, and he retired to Florida," he said. "We wanted to bring another amenity to Landmark Square. I had lunch there today. They're going to knock it out of the park."
"It's got a beautiful outside dining area. It should have a built-in business with Landmark tenants," he said. "They should do very well."
