St. Mark's Episcopal Church in New Canaan welcomes Sharon Ely Pearson to the Stages and Ages of Spiritual Transformation speaker series Saturday, Nov. 12. There will be a workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. in St. Mark's library, Sunday Adult Education class from 9 to 9:45 a.m., and she will preach Sunday, Nov. 13, at 8 and 10 a.m. At both the Saturday workshop and the Sunday class, Pearson will offer insights into the faith development of children and how parents and faith communities can support their spiritual lives in a secular world.

The Stages and Ages of Spiritual Transformation series, featuring acclaimed speakers presenting on the spiritual lives of children, adolescents, young adults, middle-agers, and seniors takes place on Saturdays and Sundays. Presentations differ. The community is invited to attend.

"Children have a profound, intuitive knowledge of God. Their sense of the sacred is innate, but they need adults to assist them in drawing out their own truth within a caring community," she said. "Young children live in the metaphysical world of the mystics and are in tune with spiritual harmonies that the rest of us can barely hear. Understanding the spirituality of childhood can help us see God in new ways."

Pearson is the Christian formation specialist at Church Publishing Inc. She has more than 30 years experience in Christian formation at the parish, diocesan, provincial and churchwide levels. Active in the National Association for Episcopal Christian Education Directors, she is a regular contributor to Episcopal Teacher magazine and has had articles published in Episcopal Life, Vestry Papers, and Religious Products magazine.
