The World Events, History and Culture Book Group at New Canaan Library will discuss Robert Edsel's "Saving Italy: The Race to Save a Nation's Treasures from the Nazis" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Plaut Room.

Edsel, a businessman turned art expert and author, has spent numerous years studying the fate of artworks displaced during World War II. His 2009 book, "The Monuments Men," focused on the Allied units' attempts to protect and recover art. "Saving Italy" is his heavily researched account of the re-conquest of Italy from 1943 to 1945 from the perspective of the "Monuments Men" and their efforts to "minimize damage to Europe's single greatest concentration of art, architecture, and history from the ravages of a world war."
