Stamford Animal Rescue announces a new promotion aimed at honoring those who have served the country. Pets for Vets Military Appreciation Month will be a monthlong celebration that runs to July 14.

STARescue will reimburse the adoption fee of any Stamford Animal Care and Control Shelter pet for active military and reserves, as well as honorably discharged veterans and retirees and their family members.

Stamford Animal Care and Control Shelter is at 201 Magee Ave.

"It is well known that companion animals can help to reduce stress, depression and anxiety," Heather Scutti, executive director of STARescue, said.

"We hope many military families' lives will be enriched through this promotion, while helping homeless pets at the Stamford Animal Care and Control Shelter find the safe, loving, forever homes they truly deserve with outstanding members of the community."
