An 84-year-old Oenoke Ridge Road resident died Wednesday after police said he was struck by a sport utility vehicle heading toward Pound Ridge, N.Y., on Oenoke Ridge Road on the town line.

Police believe the driver is a 32-year-old New Canaan woman.

Officers responding around 4:41 p.m. Wednesday found Jayarama Krishna with serious injuries to his head and leg. He was transported to Norwalk Hospital and later died. Police believe Krishna was checking his mail at the time.

The state medical examiner's office ruled the preliminary cause of Krishna's death was multiple blunt traumatic injuries, according to the release from Police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

Glass and other parts of the vehicle's passenger-side mirror were found at the scene. A 2008 Infiniti QX56 was the vehicle that struck Krishna, police said.

The Infiniti is in police custody and investigators will obtain a search and seizure warrant for the Infiniti, the release states.

Police Chief Edward Nadriczny has said the department had "numerous officers involved in the investigation."

New Canaan police are worked with the Pound Ridge Police Department, along with other departments in New York and Connecticut.

New Canaan Police strongly encourage the driver to contact the department.

Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to contact New Canaan Police at 203-594-3500.
