NEW CANAAN — Police allegedly found cocaine and marijuana in the car of a 23-year-old Stamford man who was pulled over for failing to dim his high beams.

On Sept. 23 around midnight, an officer saw Joao Oliveira, of Leroy Place, driving on Cherry Street when he failed to dim his high beams for oncoming traffic. The officer ran a check of the license plate and found the plate belonged to a 1997 Ford Mustang but was being used on a 2002 Audi.

The officer pulled over Oliveira and searched his car after smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle. During the search, the officer found marijuana, as well as individually packaged bags of cocaine.

Oliveira was charged with the sale of illegal drugs and possession of less than a half ounce of cannabis. He was also issued two motor vehicle violations for improper use of a license plate and failing to dim his high beams.

Oliveira posted a $5,000 bond. He will appear in court Oct. 5.
