With the start of the school Tuesday Aug. 31, the New Canaan Police Department will increase their presence around the schools for several days. Officers will enforce traffic laws to ensure the safety of the children as well as pedestrians and other motorists.
Motorists should use extra caution when driving because children will be waiting for school buses. Motorists should also allow themselves more time when traveling during morning hours and in the afternoon when school dismisses.
As a reminder, motorists must stop for a school bus that is stopped with stop sign extended and red lights flashing. The fine for passing a stopped school bus is $460.
