Police: 172 emergency calls during blizzard
With snow reaching up to 18 inches in nearby towns, New Canaan's 11 inches might seem somewhat paltry. Still, that did not prevent the storm from causing problems in and around town. As of 11 a.m. 155 New Canaan households are still suffering from outages, according to Connecticut Light and Power.
New Canaan Police reported a total of 172 emergency calls from 10 a.m. Sunday morning through the end of Monday. Of those calls, 93 were needed for service. Police reported 33 calls for alarms, 15 for assistance and other services, 10 for public hazards, eight for medical assistance, six for motor vehicle violations, four for traffic complaints and two for motor vehicle accidents. The two motor vehicles included one with a minor injury on weed street while the other involved property damage.
Police said 113 peak calls were received between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday.
