Performing Arts Conservatory moves to new space
On Jan. 2, 2012, the Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan opens its winter/spring semester in new professional performance and classroom facilities at 70 Pine Street in New Canaan. Located across from Zumbach's Coffee and next door to Tony's Deli, the new location is easily accessible and has convenient drop-off and parking.
"The Conservatory is creating a new unique performing arts environment that will give each student a fun and nurturing experience," Melody Libonati, founding director, said. "Our previous location above Stewart's Market at 237 Elm Street for the past five years was terrific, but we have been growing and this new location is a great opportunity to give our students an even fuller performing arts education."

The conservatory has been working with town, theatre and educational arts design professionals to ensure a dynamic, safe environment for our students and faculty. The new facilities at 70 Pine Street will feature a new theater and stage for the musical theater, acting and creative dramatic programs as well as vocal and instrumental performances. The conservatory will also have additional voice and piano studios and professional dance floors.
Programs are offered to preschoolers through adults, taught by experienced professional actors, singers, dancers and educators. New this coming year is an expanded college audition prep program for high school students, Shakespeare workshops, and a pop/rock program for middle and high school students.
"Our goal is to awaken, nurture and expand each student's creative potential by offering professionally taught classes, workshops and performance opportunities," Libonati said. Performing, directing and teaching for more than 20 years, she has developed diverse and age appropriate programs at the conservatory. The skills taught to students at the conservatory offer a lifetime of artistic expression and appreciation. Libonati is also the artistic director of The Summer Theatre of New Canaan, a professional regional theater company that has received outstanding reviews for its past seasons. The Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan serves as the host for the Summer Theatre of New Canaan who utilize their facilities and staff during the summer season and special events.
