Patient support volunteers needed

Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County is seeking mature, compassionate individuals from New Canaan to serve as patient support volunteers. Volunteers visit home-bound adults who may be experiencing loneliness, personal loss, bereavement, life transitions or chronic illness.
"The program's goal is to help keep home-bound patients from feeling isolated. We want to help patients remain active and connected to their communities," said Laurie Petrasanta, volunteer coordinator for Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County. "In most cases, the relationships that develop between patients and volunteers become special, long-lasting friendships.
"The patient support volunteer program is ideal for active adults who wish to volunteer their time in a meaningful way. It provides an opportunity to give back to the community and establish personal connections that are vital and rewarding."
Volunteers will take a three-session training course April 30, May 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the offices of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County, Suite 114, at the Health and Wellness Center at I-Park, 761 Main Ave., Norwalk.
