UPDATE: According to the state's attorney, the case against Brian Cassidy was dismissed.
Brian Cassidy, 18, of 83 Bittersweet Lane, New Canaan, was arrested July 4 on charges of third-degree forgery and possession of alcohol by a minor on a public road.
A police officer running radar on Weed Street, near Wahackme Road, observed 2011 Volvo traveling north at a speed greater than the posted 30-mph limit, according to the report. Upon approaching the driver, the officer detected an odor of marijuana, but the driver, Cassidy, said he had not been smoking and did not have any drugs in the car, police said.
Cassidy did, however, hand to the officer a bottle of beer that was not full saying it was left in the car, according to the report. After officers searched the car, they found an unopened beer bottle in Cassidy's backpack as well as three fake IDs that would make the driver either 21 or 22, police said.
He was released on a promise to appear in court July 15.
