Paul Creasey Smith
Paul Creasey Smith, a longtime resident of Darien and recently of New Canaan, died on Monday, July 26, in New Canaan. He was 69.
Born Aug. 27, 1940, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Margaret Kearns and John Creasey Smith. After graduating from New Canaan High School in 1959, Mr. Smith attended the University of Miami at Coral Gables. He completed his bachelor's degree in engineering in 1963. Two years later, Paul married Susan Curtis Berrien. The couple eventually settled in Darien where they raised their two sons, John and Carl.
Mr. Smith was a partner in the firm of McDonald and van der Poll as a professional engineer. His projects there included the Landmark Tower, the GTE Building and the Stamford Marriott. He later worked as freelance professional engineer.
Also active in his community, he was a long-standing member of the Darien Lions Club. Paul enjoyed boating and fishing.
Survivors include his two sons, John Creasey Smith II and his wife, Deborah, and Carl Berrien Smith and his wife, Wendy; four grandchildren, Daniel Creasey Smith, JoAnna Valoree Smith, Jacqueline Dahl Smith and India Mead Smith; two brothers, Peter Kearns Smith and his wife, Pamela, and John Joseph Smith and his wife, Joyce.
He was predeceased by his wife, Susan Berrien Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, at the United Methodist Church of New Canaan, 165 South Ave., with a reception immediately following at the church.
