NEW CANAAN — Waveny LifeCare Network hosts a support group for people caring for a loved one with dementia. Sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter, the group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays monthly in the Lila and Harry Coleman Library, 3 Farm Road, New Canaan. Meetings are Feb. 13 and 27, March 13 and 27, April 10 and 24, May 8 and 22, and June 12 and 26, at 1:45 p.m. Led by Kate Bacon, social worker, and Carolyn Antonion, resident care coordinator, the group focuses on caring for people with dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, and welcomes individuals from all areas to attend, free of charge. Annual celebrity breakfast set

NEW CANAAN — New Convenant Center will host its 14th annual Celebrity Breakfast on April 4 from 7 to 9 a.m. at Woodway Country Club in Darien. The event features speaker Jeff Fager, of New Canaan, executive producer of CBS’ “60 Minutes.” Proceeds will benefit the center, whose mission is to provide basic living items and services combined with longer-term solutions that focus on self-sufficiency to those in need.

Darwin Day Dinner explores human uniqueness

“What, if anything, makes humans unique?” is the subject of a presentation by Yale University professor Mark Sheskin at the 10th annual Darwin Day Dinner, an event which includes cocktail hour, dinner and science quiz, on Feb. 10 at the Water’s Edge at Giovanni’s in Darien. Sheskin is a researcher and lecturer in cognitive science at the university, who researches the evolution of morality. Information and registration can be found at darwindayct.org. The event is sponsored by the Bartlett Arboretum, Earthplace, the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, the Norwalk Public Schools Science Department, the Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, the Wilton Quaker Meeting, the Unitarian Church in Westport, and the Humanists and Freethinkers of Fairfield County. Darwin Day is an international celebration of science and humanity that takes place around Charles Darwin’s Feb. 12 birthday.
