This year, the New Canaan Historical Society introduces two new afterschool programs.

History Hour is open to boys and girls ages 4 and 5, and will include a story, an activity, and a colonial-inspired snack during each session. "Colonial Club" is open to boys and girls in grades kindergarten to second, and will offer age-appropriate crafts, baking and other unique projects.

Over the course of 10 sessions, children in both of these programs will have the chance to visit the New Canaan Historical Society's museums, play colonial games on the grounds, dress up as school children and have lessons in our 18th century one-room school house, make crafts to bring home, visit the Historical Society's garden, cook with the same foods and ingredients used long ago, preserve and dry foods, and much more.

History Hour will take place once a week, and sign up is for Mondays or Wednesdays. The cost for History Hour is $225 for members or $245 for non-members. "Colonial Club" will take place on Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The cost is $235 for members, or $255 for nonmembers. Alternatively, participants can sign up for individual days.

Programs will run from mid/late September to early/mid December and will be held at the Historical Society's 1764 Hanford-Silliman House Museum, 33 Oenoke Ridge.
