New Orleans-style jazz concert to benefit Family ReEntry
Family ReEntry Committee members are meeting, addressing invitations and spreading the word about the upcoming performance of Allen Toussaint, who will perform in a New Orleans-style Jazz Extravaganza for Music in the Garden, the 15th annual benefit and musical afternoon for Family ReEntry.
The concert will take place at the Bydale estate of honorary Event Chairwoman Joan M. Warburg in Greenwich on Sunday, Sept. 23, at noon.
"We are really fired up about the performance of this great jazz star, and expect a sell-out crowd, all for the benefit of the outstanding programs at Family ReEntry," said event co-chairwoman Sally Schenk, of Stamford. Last year, the Music in the Garden event nearly overflowed the mammoth tent for the performance of singing star Rosanne Cash, drawing a record number of patrons.
The event will honor Everett M. Schenk, head of BNP Paribas North America, with the Corporate Leadership Award. The Joan M. Warburg Award will be presented to Theresa Lantz, former commissioner of the state Department of Corrections.
Co-chairs for the event include Anne Friday, Penny Grayson and Susan Ness, who met recently in Greenwich. Helping to address invitations and stuff envelopes at Christ Church were Mary Waldron, Bernadette Settlemeyer, Sally Schenk, Evelyn Bausman, Diane Jones and Boo Federman. Also on hand were Milena Kotara and Jeffrey Earls of the Family ReEntry staff.
