New Canaanite gets financial boost for education
Linda Cleveland, a 24-year resident of New Canaan, has received the Suzanne Schlumpf PCE Named Grant from SPEO Chapter N.
Cleveland, a student at Norwalk Community College, plans to attain a paralegal certificate in 2013, at which time she will combine her financial experience with the area of law. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk.
New Canaan's PEO Chapter N has raised more than $150,000 for PEO projects over the past 45 years through fundraising efforts. PEO is an International Philanthropic Education Organization which supports women in attaining higher education. The Program for Continuing Education is one of five projects that the organization supports, and provides grants of up to $3,000 to women who have found it necessary to return to school and who are within two years of attaining their degree. Candidates need not be residents of New Canaan, but are required to have U.S. citizenship. The other projects include the P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund, Cottey College, the P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship Fund and the P.E.O. Scholar Awards.
