An initial look at the 2011 Connecticut Mastery Test results for New Canaan indicates the district has done very well across the board.

In the third grade, 90.9 percent reached goal in math and reading and 88.8 percent reached goal in writing. The percentage of students reaching proficiency levels in the third grade were, 97.7 percent in math, 95.5 percent in reading and 96.2 percent in writing.

In the fourth grade, 91.3 percent reached goal in math, 92 percent in reading and 88.2 percent in writing. The percentage of students reaching proficiency levels in the fourth grade were, 98.7 percent in math, 95.0 percent in reading and 97.4 percent in writing.

In the fifth grade, 88.9 percent reached goal in math, 85 percent in reading, 87.4 percent in writing and 91.3 percent in science. The percentage of students reaching proficiency levels in the fifth grade were, 96.4 percent in math, 92.5 percent in reading , 96.1 percent in writing and 98.1 percent in science.

In the sixth grade, 92.3 percent reached goal in math, 97.2 percent in reading and 86.3 percent in writing. The percentage of students reaching proficiency levels in the sixth grade were, 99.1 percent in math, 99.1 percent in reading and 95.4 percent in writing.

In the seventh grade, 91.9 percent reached goal in math, 95.6 percent in reading and 90.9 percent in writing. The percentage of students reaching proficiency levels in the seventh grade were, 98.5 percent in math, 97.8 percent in reading and 97.4 percent in writing.

In the eighth grade, 91.2 percent reached goal in math, 96.1 percent in reading, 92.1 percent in writing and 93.1 percent in science. The percentage of students reaching proficiency levels in the eighth grade were, 98.6 percent in math, 98.2 percent in reading , 97.6 percent in writing and 97.2 percent in science.
