New Canaan's Perron and Canaan contribute to GFA teams
The GFA girls basketball team went 0-3 last week, losing to Hamden Hall (50-26), Hopkins (41-33) and NEPSAC opponent, Watkinson (50-29).
The Dragons took on Hopkins in their next game. Johnson scored a team-high 12 points, Bridgette Foster (Southport) scored 11 points and Grady scored nine points
In the team's final game against Watkinson, all players contributed and saw time. Grady led the way offensively with 13 points and Johnson added 12 in the final game of the season.
The GFA wrestling team picked up a 54-12 victory over New York Military Academy last week. Senior captain Charlie Ross (Darien) won his final dual in a GFA singlet by pin in the first period and fellow senior Aubrey Carter (Old Greenwich) won his match by a decisive 9-3 margin.
In the Western New England Tournament, eighth grader Cristian Rivera (Bridgeport) wrestled a very strong tournament at the 106 class, pinning a wrestler who he had lost to earlier in the season. He eventually went 3-2 on the day, losing to the same wrestler twice and taking fifth place.
At 132 pounds, senior Max Perron (New Canaan) placed third, with his only loss coming in the semifinals to a strong wrestler from Hamden Hall. Freshman Riley Grady (Darien) wrestled in the 113 pound weight class and knocked of the number two seed to advance to the finals where he lost to take second place.
