NEW CANAAN — A 31-year-old New Canaan man was caught allegedly driving drunk after being pulled over for an expired registration, police said.

On Dec. 16 around 1:15 a.m., an officer saw a car going northbound on Old Stamford Road with an expired registration. The officer pulled the car over and spoke with the driver, Adam Sauerteig of East Avenue. According to police, Sauerteig’s breath smelled of alcohol. The officer conducted a field sobriety test, which Sauerteig failed.

The New Canaan man was charged with driving under the influence and driving an unregistered vehicle. Police said he refused to be tested for his blood alcohol content. He consequently posted a $250 bond and was released with a court date of Dec. 27.
