New Canaan forecast: Cooling off after storms
A stormy afternoon and evening today, according to the National Weather Service, are expected to herald the arrival of much cooler temperatures in southwestern Connecticut.
Showers -- possibly, thunderstorms -- are likely after 2 p.m. today as temperatures rise to a high in the mid-70s, the NWS says. There will be a south wind 7 to 15 mph, becoming northwest.
Tonight, showers may continue until about 8 p.m. Cloudy skies will gradually clear, as the low temperature falls to the upper-40s. The cooling trend will bring breezy conditions, with a north wind between 14 and 22 mph, gusting as high as 33 mph.
Friday is expected to be sunny, but much cooler than earlier in the week. The high temperature is expected to rise only to the mid-60s, with a north wind between 11 and 13 mph. The overnight low temperature is again likely to dip to the upper-40s.
The fall-like forecast for the weekend is bright, the weather service predicts: Saturday and Sunday should both be mostly sunny, with daytime high temperatures in the mid-60s.
