A stormy break in the recent stretch of hot, humid weather is expected later today, according to the National Weather Service.

In issuing a "hazardous weather outlook" for southwestern Connecticut this afternoon, the NWS warns that showers and thunderstorms -- with downpours and strong winds possible -- are likely as temperatures rise to a high in the low-80s. There will be a daytime south wind between 7 to 16 mph.

The threat of strong storms increases tonight, the NWS warns, as the temperature dips to about 60 degrees.

Tomorrow, clear and cooler conditions should prevail as skies turn sunny and the daytime high temperature registers in the upper-70s. Nighttime will be partly cloudy, with a low temperature in the mid-50s.

Monday also should be sunny, with a high temperature in the upper-70s. Monday night is expected to be mostly clear, with low temperatures tumbling to the low-50s.

The outlook for Tuesday, the weather service predicts, is sunny and temperatures in the low-70s.
