The first day of 2012 will be sunny and relatively mild in southwestern Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service.

The New Year's Day high temperature will be about 50 degrees, with a west wind at 11 mph, later becoming south.

Tonight, however, showers are likely, mainly before midnight, the NWS says. Nighttime skies will be partly cloudy, with a low around 36 degrees and a south wind 11 to 18 mph, then becoming west.

Tomorrow should be mostly sunny, with a high near 43 and breezy, with a west wind between 17 and 21 mph. Tomorrow night, there is a chance of snow flurries as the temperature tumbles to a low of about 25 years. There will be a west wind between 11 and 15 mph.

On Tuesday, there remains a chance of flurries under mostly cloudy skies, with a daytime high temperature only in the upper-20s. There will be a blustery, northwest wind between 20 and 24 mph. Tuesday night will be partly cloudy and very cold, with a low temperature of about 13 degrees.

The outlook for Wednesday is partly sunny skies, with a high temperature in the upper-20s, the weather service predicts.
