New Canaan braces for impending winter storm
NEW CANAAN — Businesses around New Canaan are preparing for what, according to the National Weather Service, will be the largest winter storm of 2017 on Thursday, with up to a foot of snow expected in some parts of the northeast.
New Canaan public schools announced around 7 p.m. they’d be closed in anticipation of the storm.
“Enjoy the snow!” tweeted superintendent Bryan Luizzi.
The New Canaan Library will be closed all day on Thursday, Feb.9. All activities and programs are canceled. The author talk with Alexandra Wolfe scheduled for 6:30 p.m. is, for the time, canceled, though the library said they more information on possible rescheduling would be released at a later date.
The call to close Town Hall on Thursday has not yet been made, but according to Director of Public Works Tiger Mann, preparations for the storm have already begun.
“We’ve been prepping all day, really all week, for the storm,” Mann said.
The New Canaan Police Department urged residents to be aware of the weather before hitting the roads.
“The police department would encourage people to stay off the roads to allow plows to clear the roads and if people must travel to exercise caution while traveling,” said Lt. Jason Ferraro.
The list will be updated as needed.
