The Y's annual senior health fair will take place Wednesday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Staying Put in New Canaan, Lapham Center, and the town of New Canaan Health and Human Services have joined together with the New Canaan YMCA along with Norwalk and Stamford Hospital to give area residents the opportunity to receive basic health screenings, as well as information useful for maintaining good health and well-being. The event is free and open to all in the community.

Among the free screenings to be offered are non-fasting blood tests, cardiac risk assessment, pulmonary function test, facial skin analysis, vision and hearing screenings, and body composition. At the end of the screenings, each participant will go home with the results, which can then be given to primary care physicians for further follow-up care.

In addition to physicians being on hand to answer general health as well as behavioral health questions, Nursing and Home care will be available to talk to participants about medication management. New to the fair this year are several interactive fun activities including a silk scarf project by art therapist Sara O'Connor, a shoe fitting by New Balance of New Canaan, Chair exercise, Tai Chi, and Qigong demonstrations, technology demos and advice and test your brain power with a game of Bananagrams. The fair will also feature Stamford Hospital's Mobile Wellness Unit performing mammogram screenings, appointments suggested (call 203-276-5990). Several other learning opportunities include testing your memory skills with a computerized brain game, learning the right way to wash your hands, information about home health care options, nutrition tips and simple take home exercises.

Simply Delicious Catering will provide a tasting of healthy meal ideas and snacks that seniors can sample. Complimentary chair massages will also be available to fair attendees.
