The New Canaan YMCA is hosting a celebration in honor of World Down Syndrome Day on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The goal of the celebration is to promote awareness and understanding of Down syndrome, and to mobilize support and recognition of the dignity, rights and well-being of people with the syndrome across the world.

Last year, more than 300 participants attended the celebration at the Y. This year's activities include Bouncing Bears gymnastics, art and sensory activities, music, sports, games, Zumba and a karate demo.

The Y's celebration takes place in support of the local organization 21 Strong, a group of Fairfield County families who came together because their lives have been enriched by Down syndrome.

The event is free. For information, contact Carolyn Kaufman at or 203-920-1656.
