New Canaan shut out the Norwalk Jaguars 5-0 on Sunday afternoon while dealing with a steady, cold wind throughout the game, contributing to a back and forth scoreless match until the 18th minute of the first half.

New Canaan set up one of its many corner kicks and executed a perfect give and go set play. Braden Dial kicked a deliberate short ball to Maeve Selvaggi, who touched it back to Dial, who launched a high arcing ball from 20 yards out. The Norwalk goal tender had no chance as the ball found the upper-right corner for a 1-0 New Canaan lead.

Ninety seconds later, New Canaan extended its lead to 2 -0 as Reilly Krug redirected a loose ball to the back of the net.

With seven minutes to play in the first half, New Canaan goalie Katherine Reiss made a superb save, denying Norwalk a scoring chance on its best try of the afternoon.

New Canaan's defense, anchored by Zoe Jones, Nicole LaBadie and second half goalie Kendall Curtin, held Norwalk in check for the balance of the game. Selvaggi tallied New Canaan's third goal of the half with a beautiful low liner to just inside the right post.

New Canaan continued its dominance of the game in the second half. Freia Mierendorf scored the fourth goal on a rebound off of a ball driven to the post by Selvaggi from just outside the box.

Just before time expired, Krug scored for the second time, assisted by Reiss, who set up the goal with a perfectly crossed ball from the right side.

New Canaan finished the regular season with a 5-2-1 record and a plus-20 goal differential. They will face No. 2-seeded Newtown Blue on Saturday in the semifinals.
