New Canaan U12 boys soccer team wins both games over weekend
On Saturday, the New Canaan U12 boys soccer team cruised to an 8-0 win over South Windsor in the first round of the Connecticut Cup.
JJ Lee scored two minutes into the game to give New Canaan the early lead. Luke Rwambuya added the second goal a few minutes later. Matt Chalon made it 3-0 with a goal into the bottom left corner of the net. Liam Grifths broke away, ran downfield and scored the fourth goal just before half time.
In the second half, New Canaan goalie Matt Brand made an outstanding save to keep South Windsor off the board. Rwambuya got his second goal in the early part of the second half. Max Harrel (assisted by Hans Toft-Nielsen) made it 6-0.
Matt Cosco got his first goal of the tournament, and Matt Chalon (assisted by CJD'Virgilio) put the final goal in and the team beat South Windsor 8-0.
On Sunday, New Canaan capped off its high-scoring weekend with a 4-2 win over Fairfield. Cosco made a nice pass to Rwambuya, who buried his shot for a 1-0 lead. Brand had a breakaway run down field to score New Canaan's second goal.
New Canaan goalie Oliver Crookendan blocked a shot to keep New Canaan up 2-0 at halftime.
After a Fairfield goal, Cosco found Grifths for a 3-1 lead. Rwambuya put the game out of reach with his second goal for a 4-1 lead, and Fairfield scored the final goal for the 4-2 final.
