The New Canaan Demons 12U All Star team continued their dominance in All Star Tournament play over the weekend, moving to 5-0 overall.

After sweeping the District Tournament without a loss, New Canaan started the State Tournament by defeating a tough Southbury team 2-1 on Saturday in a pitcher's duel. New Canaan was led by the stellar pitching of Robby Jones, who threw three scoreless innings to begin the game. New Canaan scored a run in the third inning as Mikey Pelli and Jones drew walks and Matt Burger singled in a run.

New Canaan scored another run in the fourth when Matt Evans led off with a single which was followed by a bunt single by Justin Stemerman. With two outs, Jimmy Stanley squeezed home the run with a perfect bunt single. Pelli pitched a pair of scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth. Jones came back out to pitch the sixth inning and nailed down the win after allowing one run. Southbury had the tying run on third base, but Burger picked off the runner with a perfect throw to third baseman Pelli, who threw back to Burger at the plate for the final out.

On Sunday, the Demons rolled over Norwalk 11-2. Dillon Abate started the game with a single, which was followed up by singles from Pelli and Jones. Evans later singled in two runs to make it 3-0.

In the second, Stanley walked and stole second. Abate followed with an RBI single to score Stanley. After two outs, Burger was hit by a pitch and Evans doubled home two runs with a shot to right-center, as New Canaan led 6-0 after two.

New Canaan added another three runs in the third as Justin Greco singled, Stanley walked, Pelli singled and Jones doubled. The Demons added another two runs in the sixth, as Jones hit a monster two-run bomb to center. Pelli and Burger pitched well, each throwing three innings with a combined total of 56 pitches for the entire game.

The New Canaan defense was flawless. Abate was pure at shortstop on several plays, including a stellar backhanded play on a rocket one-hopper, Trevor Donnelly was like a cat behind the plate with a great play on a bunt and Stemerman had a great running catch in centerfield.
