New Canaan U11 Red soccer team easily defeats Fairfield Blitz
The New Canaan U11 Red soccer team defeated the Fairfield Blitz 5-1 on with a series of early attacks, keeping Fairfield back on their heels for much of the first half on Sunday in Fairfield.
Strong shots from C.J. D'Virgilio and Timothy Norton helped split the Fairfield defense, but Fairfield kept the game scorless thanks to some great goaltending. Eventually, Oliver Crookenden put New Canaan on the board after he threaded his way past a defender to score off his left foot.
Shortly thereafter, amid continued pressure, Luke Rwambuya nearly made it 2-0, but his shot bounced off the crossbar.
Fairfield came out strongl in the second half with much of the initial play in the New Canaan end, requiring sharp goalkeeping by Brendan Knightly.
New Canaan took a 2-0 lead after Hans Toft-Nielsen rocketed a penalty kick into the top left hand corner of the net. The goals kept coming; a superb solo run past five defenders saw Rwambuya score to make it 3-0.
New Canaan increased its lead to 4-0 after a pass from Jack Richardson to Alessandro Sulpizi, who sent the ball into the open net. After a goal by Fairfield, Rwambuya scored his second goal of the game to seal the win for New Canaan.
