Those who missed some of New Canaan's very special holiday musical performances will have another opportunity to see them, beginning Christmas Eve and continuing through Jan. 1 on New Canaan Television, Channel 79.

The three holiday programs are "The Nutcracker," performed by the New England Dance Theater at New Canaan High School; "Handel's Messiah at St. Mark's Church," featuring St. Mark's Chorale and an orchestra of professionals from New Haven and New York City; and "The Glory of Christmas," performed by the First Presbyterian Church Choir and Orchestra and the Monteverdi Brass Orchestra. The programs are sponsored by the Bank of New Canaan.

For a complete schedule, viewers may check the Channel 79 Bulletin Board or visit, then click on "NCTV Channel 79" in the lower right corner of the page.

NCTV president Carlton Thompson shared more good news at the December meeting of the Advisory Board. Thanks to the recent grant from the state of Connecticut, new technical equipment recently installed at Town Hall has made possible several new opportunities for Channel 79 viewers. The new technology enables NCTV to stream Channel 79 programs to anyone living outside of New Canaan, which means that the many people who work in New Canaan and live elsewhere can now access Channel 79 through the Town of New Canaan website. "I can now see it in Rhode Island," Thompson said.

In addition to the new live coverage of town meetings which brings issues of town governance to viewers as they are being discussed, in January NCTV will offer interactive programming which will allow home viewers to go online and ask questions of speakers and panelists during the actual meetings. More information on details will be given early in the New Year.
