New Canaan Police tased a man after responding to a fight in progress Saturday, May 29, at Synergy Salon, located at 53 East Ave.
When officers arrived at about 8:45 a.m., they observed two males on the ground fighting. One officer repeatedly told the men to stop fighting. The officer warned he would use the taser if they didn't comply, but the fighting continued.
The taser was used on one of the men and the fight, which police believe was caused by an alleged extramarital relationship involving a female, immediately ceased.
Both men suffered injuries and lacerations to the head and were treated by EMTs at the scene. Both men were transported to Norwalk Hospital.
Thomas F. Murphy, 50, of Norwalk was charged with strangulation, breach of peace and third-degree assault. He was released without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 11.
The second man, Richard Rivera, is 38 years old and resides in Stamford. Charges are forthcoming for Rivera.
