New Canaan PD: Teens caught with pot, Ecstasy
One teen received an infraction and another was charged with possession after New Canaan police stopped them on Ponus Ridge at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 14.
An officer was patrolling the area and noticed a car with both front doors open and the headlights on, parked on the Winfield Road cul-de-sac, off of Ponus Ridge. By the time the officer turned around to investigate, the car had pulled away in the opposite direction. The officer put his lights on and caught up to the car, which took longer than normal to pull over.
When the officer approached the car, he smelled the odor of burnt marijuana mixed with a strong odor of air freshener. He also noticed several cans of air freshener in the back seat of the vehicle.
When the driver, Atisha Vaghji, 19, of Stamford, went into the glove compartment, the officer noticed several clear baggies, according to police.
Upon inspection of the vehicle, the officer found plastic baggies containing marijuana residue and stems, several packages of rolling papers, a grinder and plastic cigar cases also containing marijuana residue and stems.
On the floor in front of the passenger seat was a purse with a small orange baggie of unknown powder, which police said belonged to the passenger, Lindsey Morgulis, 19, also of Stamford. Police did a field-test of the substance, which identified it as MDMA, more commonly known as Ecstasy, according to police.
Vaghji received an infraction for marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Morgulis was charged with possession of narcotics and received a ticket for possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana. She was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 27.
