New Canaan Inn celebrates 30 years
New Canaan Inn, Waveny Care Network's distinctive independent living residence, recently celebrated its 30th birthday and anniversary of serving the community in the company of past and present Inn residents, families, friends, board members, volunteers and staff.
Upon entering the inn's lobby for the celebration, more than 125 guests were greeted by a wall of remembrances that sparkled with metallic streamers, colorful decorations, and an array of newspaper articles and photographs from over the past three decades. Photos included shots of the original 1980 groundbreaking of the Inn, actress Eileen Heckart speaking at a rally to help promote the Inn, and past and current residents.
"Celebrating 30 years of life at the Inn and 30 years of devoted community support go hand in hand," said Ann Callahan, administrator at New Canaan Inn. "It was a special party for a very special place, and it gave us the opportunity to show our appreciation and respect for those we serve as well as those we have served in the past."
Long-time Inn volunteer, Wally Mead, delighted everyone with his piano playing in addition to entertainment provided by the "Grandmas and Grandpas" -- an award winning Barbershop Quartet.
"It was a perfect day and a gentle afternoon of fun and fellowship," said Barbara Jeffries, assistant director of Resident Activities at the Inn. "We all indulged in a bit of reminiscing. Over the past 30 years, countless happy memories have been created here. It was a joy to recall and share so many stories of loved ones and happy times, both past and present."
Guests gathered for an old-fashioned cookout, complete with hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs and sides. Tables were set up not only in the dining room and dining room patio, but in the living room and outside patio so that residents could celebrate while enjoying the beautiful weather.
