Eric Lysenko, a 2010 New Canaan High School graduate, recently received a call to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brasilia, Brazil. He gave his farewell address to the New Canaan congregation Sunday, July 31, and departed for the Mission Training Center in Provo, Utah on Aug. 10, where he will learn to speak Portuguese.
As a missionary for the church, Lysenko will spend much of his time providing valuable service in the local communities where he is assigned with other missionaries. In addition, he will share his deep, personal conviction about the Gospel with the people of Brazil. Missionaries in the Latter-day Saint (Mormon) church serve without pay for two years.
Lysenko graduated from NHCS having run cross country and track all four years and having served as captain all three seasons of his senior year. He loved scouting and also earned his Eagle Scout award his senior year. His hobbies include playing piano and clarinet. He recently returned from his freshman year at Brigham Young University where he will return after serving his mission.
