NEW CANAAN — In addition to welcoming new students and a new school year, New Canaan Country School is also opening its doors to new faculty members. Nine new staffers joined the staff this fall from other independent schools in the region.

“It is essential that we attract and retain the best teachers. I’m very proud of the cohort we have joining us this year; they are an immensely talented group who are passionate about educating children and transforming lives,” said Head of School Rob Macrae in a statement.

Meaghan Mallin joined the lower school as its new head. Mallin comes to New Canaan Country School from The Stanwich School in Greenwich where she served as the associate head of the school since 2014. Mallin had been at the Stanwich School since 2002 and served as a fourth grade teacher for four years before becoming head of the intermediate house, then head of the lower school. Mallin has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Boston College and Master of Arts degree in teaching from Manhattanville College.

Steve Wilson will be the new physical education teacher and coach for middle and upper school sports. Wilson previously worked at Rippowam Cisqua School in Bedford, N.Y. as a physical education teacher and assistant athletic director.

The school also welcomed an assistant science teacher for the lower school, new homeroom teachers for grades three and five and a new lead kindergarten teacher. There are also three new language instructors in the upper school, including Lin Yue Wang, a Mandarin instructor who is a native of China and founder of TalkOrange, a consulting company for people who want to learn and use Mandarin.
