NEW CANAAN — Awareness, action and support for autism brought the community out in force Friday evening when the 8th annual All Out for Autism 5k Walk & Run took place downtown in New Canaan.

Sponsored by the YMCA, Special Education Network of New Canaan, and New Balance store, the event included a race for several hundred adults and older kids, and a quarter-mile fun run for the younger people.

“The proceeds go to the New Canaan Y’s special needs program,” said Carolynn Kaufman, director of special needs programming.

Over 430 people registered, with more showing up at the last minute.

“It’s a great fundraising opportunity,” said Caitlin Duncan of Ridgefield, “and it’s for a good cause.”
