A free three-part educational series, "Navigating Divorce and Transition: What You Need To Know," will cover the legal, financial and emotional aspects as they apply to each stage of the process at Waveny House, 677 South Ave., New Canaan.

Sponsored by the Alliance of Business Professionals, a New Canaan-based group of experts in a wide variety of

fields involved in helping individuals, families and small

businesses, the sessions take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25; Thursday, Oct. 10; and Thursday, Nov. 7.

The first seminar, "Considering Divorce? Exploding the Myths," will address the initial questions people may have and the role of professionals in the process. The topics to be covered will include the value of counseling, how to structure a strategy to proceed with the divorce, preparing a financial inventory of assets and liabilities, child custody and visitation, alimony and child support. Presenters include Sari Jaffe, of Jaffe and Jaffe, a law firm in New Canaan; John Murphy, financial adviser and portfolio manager of the Boudreau Murphy Group at Morgan Stanley; Kathy Toombs, licensed marriage and family therapist in New Canaan; and Bill Bergner, owner of State Farm Insurance in New Canaan.

The second seminar, "Getting Divorced? What Do You Do Now?," will cover the many options and decisions to be made. A panel discussion will be led by Bergner. Panelists include Murphy; John Nelson, certified public accountant; Don Moyle, Insurance Navigation; Carol Hollyday, Realtor at William Pitt Sotheby's International Realty; Anna Maria Kinberg, interior designer/home stager; and Cynthia Herbert, appraiser of fine art and personal property.

The third seminar, "Starting a New Chapter? How Do You Take Control of Your Life?," will cover more options for emotional and financial support, re-engaging with the community and potential career transition. Presenters include Linda Olson, licensed clinical psychologist; Toombs and Dom Bonarrigo, career and job transition counselor.
