The New Canaan High School Drama Department has proven itself once again at the Connecticut Drama Association awards recently in Ellington.

High school students from across the state perform plays at this annual competition which moves from high school to high school each year. Each production is judged on its merits in a number of categories, and students from each school also have the opportunity to hear feedback from the judges after each performance.

NCHS performed a shortened version of the play "Almost Maine" which was the fall play at NCHS. This year New Canaan High School drama students were pleased to win awards in the following categories: Outstanding Movement, Outstanding Make Up, Outstanding Lighting, Outstanding Work in Creating and Developing Commitment to the World of the Play, Honorable Acting Mention for Katayoun Amir-Aslani, Andrew Gruseke and Olivia Canning, the Technical Design Award and the Theatrical Excellence Award.

The students had a fantastic weekend and were able to add quite a bit to the trophy case in the NCHS auditorium, which is looking fuller every year, according to drama department spokesperson Patricia Oxman.
