NEW CANAAN — Though she’s been heading the department for more than four months, Stacy Miltenberg is now officially the Director of New Canaan’s Parking Department.

“It feels good to be official,” Miltenberg said. “The town has had confidence in me and everything else has worked out.”

Miltenberg was approved by the Board of Selectmen for the role on Thursday, Jan. 26. She took over for Karen Miller as interim director in September 2016 and has since overseen the implementation of a $10 wait-list fee and the ordering of new payment machines at commuter parking lots.

She said cutting into the wait-list and creating a more pleasant user experience for people parking in town have been, and will remain, among her top priorities.

Before coming to New Canaan, Miltenberg was a New York City police officer for 20 years. She joined the New Canaan Police Department in 2003 and then became the Parking Department’s Administrative Assistant in 2005 under Miller.

“They did a good in picking her. Her years of experience have definitely paid off,” said Michael McCargo, or “Mr. Mike,” as he is known around town. McCargo, who has worked part-time as a parking enforcement officer for the town for more than five years, said that when he came to apply those many years ago, Miltenberg hired him on the spot.

McCargo said he looks forward to working with Miltenberg in her new role.

“Her years of experience have definitely paid off,” McCargo said. “No slight to Karen (Miller), but Stacy was helping to run the department even when she was here. Stacy has had time to take in everything.”
