The Merritt Parkway reopened late Monday morning after being shut down between New Canaan Exit 37 and Norwalk Exit 38 due to an accident involving a car striking a tree.
Trooper Kelly Grant, who reported no injuries in the accident, could not say why it would have closed both lanes. At 10:45 a.m., she estimated that the Merritt could be reopened in as little as an hour. State Department of Transportation workers are on the way to the accident scene to remove the tree, she said.
Three car accidents were reported earlier in the morning in Norwalk near Exit 41 in Westport when sleet turned into slush and began freezing in the road, Norwalk Deputy Chief David Lepus said .
Three people were transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport and Norwalk EMS ambulances in the earlier incidents, according to the Westport fire department, which attributed the accidents to road conditions.
